WIC Program

Women, Infant, Child Supplemental Food Program (W.I.C.) is a USDA/FNS program that provides nutrition packages for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants and children. The program also offers breastfeeding peer counseling for new momw who should choose that option.

What is the WIC Program?
Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. WIC is a supplemental food and nutritional program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. of Northeastern Oklahoma. You DO NOT have to be Native American to receive Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. WIC benefits.

WIC Serves:
Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or up to six months postpartum, Infants up to one year of age and Children until their fifth birthday.

To be considered for WIC you must be a pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum woman, infant or child under 5 years old. You must be at nutritional risk and be within the program income guidelines.

Income Guidelines
If you qualify for any of the following programs, you are eligible to receive benefits from Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. WIC:
• Medicaid
• SNAP (Food Stamps)
• TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
• FDP (Food Distribution Program) App lying for WIC :

You will need to make an appointment with the Inter-Tribal Council WIC staff in your area. When you come for your appointment, you must bring the following items:
• Proof of Income
• Proof of Address
• ID for person applying for WIC

At the appointment, you will be asked to complete a nutrition/health assessment of the person applying for WIC. Please provide truthful information to the WIC Educators. Also, you and/or your child will be weighed, measured and a blood sample will be taken from the finger or heel to assess iron status.

Nutrition Education:
The Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. WIC staff will provide you with nutrition counseling and information on:
• What foods are good for you and why
• How to properly feed your infant and child
• Health information and consumer education

This information is used to help you understand the importance of good nutrition for the total health of your family.

Referrals for Health care:
Inter-Tribal Council, Inc. WIC can provide you with referrals for health care or other programs in the area for whatever you may need. If we don't have it, we will find it.

Benefits you will receive from inter-tribal council, Inc. WIC
Nutritious Foods Women and Children will receive:
• Low-fat Milk
• Cheese
• Cereal high in Iron
• Eggs
• Juice high in Vitamin C
• Dried or Canned beans/peas
• Peanut Butter
• Whole grain breads or whole grain food items
• Fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables Infants will receive:
• Iron fortified formula
• Infant cereal
• Infant fruits and vegetables
• Infant meats
